# Filtering tenders by budget

> Tender Navigator can restrict a search or a filter to tenders whose published budget falls within a minimum and maximum in a chosen currency. Most procurement notices publish no budget, so a separate switch decides whether those tenders are kept or excluded.

## Where the budget filter appears

- In the **Pre-search tool**: the fields Budget from, Budget to, Currency and a Published budgets switch.
- In the **filter editor**: an opt-in Tender budget block with Minimum, Maximum, Currency and a switch for tenders without a stated budget. The block shows a plain-language summary of the rule, for example "EUR 100,000 - EUR 500,000", "EUR 100,000 and above" or "Up to EUR 500,000".

## The rules

- **Both bounds empty means no budget filtering.** The search or filter ignores budget entirely.
- **One bound is enough.** "EUR 100,000 and above" and "Up to EUR 500,000" are both valid rules. A minimum of 0 is a real bound: it means "any stated budget, any amount".
- **The minimum must not exceed the maximum.** The form refuses to save or search otherwise.
- **Amounts are compared across currencies by Tender Navigator.** You state the bounds and a currency (EUR by default); tenders published in other currencies are converted for comparison. Tender Navigator does not show converted figures; a tender's own budget is always displayed in its own currency.

## Tenders that publish no budget

Most procurement notices state no budget. The **Published budgets** switch (in the filter editor, "Tenders without a stated budget") decides what happens to them:

- **Included** (the default): tenders with no published budget still match. A bare minimum therefore only drops tenders whose stated budget is below it.
- **Excluded**: only tenders that publish a budget can match. This narrows results sharply. Measured on the live database, a query of about 10,000 notices kept about 300 once the switch was on.

In the filter editor the exclusion switch requires at least one bound. Excluding budget-less tenders while stating no range is refused with an inline error and a one-click "Include tenders without a budget" fix, because that combination drops most tenders with no range shown anywhere to explain why.

## Where the budget is shown

Whenever a tender states a budget, it appears as **Estimated budget** in the Pre-search side panel, on the tender notice page, in the Tender Info panel on the Results page, on a shared tender page, and in list exports (as a raw number and a currency code in separate columns for CSV and Excel). When a tender states none, the row is simply absent. Tender Navigator never shows a dash or a zero in its place.

## On a result, the archived filter rule is shown

The Tender Info panel for an evaluated tender shows both the tender's own budget and the budget rule of the filter **as it was when the tender was evaluated**. Editing the filter later does not rewrite why a past result matched.
